Hi there I'm not experienced with hardware but I've built a few systems in my day. I'm least experienced with PSU's I don't really know how much power I need. I'm looking for suggestions on a PSU for this build and how many Watts it will require. Having a quiet PSU is of UTMOST importance!

Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 Dual Core Processor LGA775 3.0GHZ Wolfdale

Gigabyte EP43-UD3L ATX LGA775 P43

EVGA GeForce GTX 280 Superclocked 621MHZ 1024MB

2 HD's
2 DVD-WRITERS
4-6GB ram

Thanks a lot.

Do you have a quiet case? If having a very quiet system is as important to you as it is to me, then buy an Antec Sonata Plus 550 case http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811129037&Tpk=antec%20sonata%20plus. That case/PSU combination is very quiet (much quieter than an Antec Sonata III).

No offense sir, but that Superclocked GTX280 is going to be a ton louder than your psu. I wouldn't pay a super steep price premium on something that won't even be your loudest component.

A quiet PSU is of UTMOST importance to you.You have a mid or full tower important for cable management.Anyway i recommend;
CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W +12v single rail @ 41 ampere or CORSAIR CMPSU-650TX 650W +12v single rail @ 52 ampere.SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC.Ultra-quiet 120mm double ball-bearing fan. Very quiet,5 yr warranty,plenty of cables.Both are $99.99 with free shipping and 20.00 rebate @ newegg.I have CORSAIR CMPSU-750TX 750W in my new build and have used this brand before..EXCELLENT.I hope this helps good luck.

I didn't realize that a GTX280 is that loud, but at http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/hardware-canucks-reviews/7972-evga-geforce-gtx-280-1gb-superclocked-review-19.html, the reviewer wrote:

If the temperatures were a bit on the high side, they were of no fault of the 80mm fan since it was trying for all it was worth to comply with what the fan speed controller was asking. If you haven’t already guessed let me spoil the fun for you: this is one of the loudest cards on my test bench in a long time.
