Hi

I have had a boot issue since i built the computer which isnt a total pain in the butt, but im sure its something simple and would really appreciate help.

When i boot the computer, it will go for about 5 secs and shut down. After this, it wil boot again, fans come on for 1 second, and shut down. It does this 6 or 7 more times then runs, but hard drive doesnt kick in.

When i shut it down and restart, it will boot fine. Also, if its been on and I shut it down, if i turn it on within about 30 mins, it starts straight away.

Ive updated bios, have the HDD as 1st boot priority, so im not sure why it does this.

Any suggestions????

Thanks

Scot

Hi Scot, can I ask what components you have in your computer?

Have you had any problems to do with RAM while the problem's been going on?

I've got what sounds like exactly the same problem, but when building my computer I managed to blow up something related to the RAM (didn't properly put in 3/4 RAM sticks), and the error message I get on my motherboard relates to problems with the RAM controller. Just wondering if it may be something along those lines.

As you say, it isn't a total pain but it does get annoying!

Hi and Thanks.
Ive never had any error messages and the RAM seems to work just fine.

Asus P7P55D
i5 750
Corsair 2x2gb xms3 1066mhz

I have new ram upgrade on order, should be here today or tomorrow.

Almost as if HDD is invisible before it goes off on some odd boot sequence then decides it wants to work.

Hmmmmmmm, if you already don't have one, is it possible to stick in a motherboard speaker in? If you already do, do you get any beeps while booting? (I sure as hell did, had to take the speaker out because I couldn't deal with it any longer...) If not, they're worth getting seeing as they're literally as cheap as chips.

Alas no difference, still does the same. Note that it holds the red LED on CPU (on Mboard) when not booting properly, although the CPU works just fine.

Suggestions?
