News Nintendo details the Switch 2 in a Direct livestream

"The Switch 2 has a 7.9-inch screen and is 13.9 mm thick, the same depth as the Switch."

That ain't true. The Switch 2 is thicker than the Switch, and the Switch is thicker than 13.9 mm.
Thickness is objectively measured from the thickest point not, just like, "the general vibe of how thick we want to trick people into thinking it is, man"
So that is annoying.

Otherwise, there is zero chance I'm going to spend $450+ on this. It's bigger than the too-big Switch (and doesn't look ergonomic), ugly, presumably underpowered, slightly confusing - but the big dealbreaker is no OLED.
I'm tired of LCDs, and I don't want to buy them anymore, at least outside of a dollar store calculator.

Pokemon is a boring waste of time, and Tears of the Kingdom is the second worst Zelda, behind Spirit Tracks. The other games don't look interesting.

That pricing is getting crazy for parents. Especially if they have multiple kids.
Switch 1 was revolutionary, Switch 2 has to deal with all the other handhelds/steamdeck.
First Party Nintendo titles vs a very mature linux/pc market.

I love Mario Kart, but I sure would be more interested in a N64 classic then a long overdue upgraded switch. I don't believe it will do as well as the original Switch which never really saw a discount(stayed at MSRP for its entire life, impressive)... I believe Switch 2 will need to come down in price to compete in the modern market, but we shall see.

"We know from Nintendo's spec page that Nvidia will be providing the ccustom hip."

Nvidia makes super custom hips now eh? :)

Its looking alright so far, i dont love the pricing when compared to the deck or other portables, but its nintendo, so they'll probably sell a ton anyway. This is definitely Nintendo's most expensive console release though, at least when not accounting for inflation.

When accounting for inflation, the original NES was $199, which translates to $593.06 in 2025 dollars. The SNES was also $199, which translates to $468.53 in 2025 dollars. This makes the switch 2, the third most expensive console Nintendo has ever released.

So there's a weird thing in our CMS where, if you have a linebreak (<BR>, which you get by pressing Shift+Enter) separating paragraphs, and you go and edit something, it will sometimes shift the cursor (input position) around in unexpected ways.

It's after the first character you type, it jumps back a word or something, puts the letter you typed there, and then goes back to where you were (and deletes the last linebreak in the block). I usually catch that, but I was the one writing that bit and clearly missed that the skipping around happened. (There are reasons to use linebreaks instead of paragraphs... PM me if you really want to know. LOL)

Hah its all good, I've been guilty of tupos like that myself many times. I just wanted to point it out is all, and the thought of Nvidia making hips made me laugh :).

I agree the price will be difficult for Nintendo to market to parents. My siblings won't get it for their kids since the switch works just fine for them still today.

What's surprising is how well in line with inflation Nintendo has previously priced their consoles in general. But this could indicate that the Switch 2 is over priced.
Prices are in USD and inflation considered using https://www.usinflationcalculator.com/
Gamecube released in 2001 at 199.99
Wii released in 2006 at 249.99 and the gamecube would cost 226.66
Wii U released in 2012 at 299 and the Wii would cost 284.70 (The Wii U was a famous flop)
Switch release in 2017 at 299.99 and the Wii would cost 303.96. The Wii U would cost 319.22
In 2025 the switch would cost 389.22. That's 60.78 dollars under the price of the switch 2. Maybe it's tariffs, maybe it's added cost for "better" features.

Even accounting for inflation it's their most expensive (except for the wii u. I originally wrote this thinking none were more expensive).

199 gamecube from 2001 to 2025 is 358.74
The 249.99 wii from 2006 to 2025 is 395.67
The 299 wii u from 2012 to 2025 is 415.54
The 299 switch from 2017 to 2025 is 389.22

You can still expand the storage with microSD cards OR buy the physical game instead of downloading it.
Over 80% of my switch library is physical games. Maybe even over 90%. I thought the rest of my family would be the same but they are maybe more like 1/3 physical. Plus the modern trend is that most console gamers are digital only. Still I'm glad that switch games can work on switch 2. The whole switch 2 edition of some games feels like it could fragment multiplayer games. Imagine having the switch 2 edition of mario party and your friends don't. Then those specific mini games aren't available, yet you paid for them. Guess ya gotta have them over in person then

I'm still left with 2 questions:
First, which is very important: Are the triggers analog - or at least are they analog on the gamecube controller (I don't think the switch wireless gamecube controllers were analog)?

Why in the heck is the camera a separate accessory, instead of built in? Is it just because they want to charge way too much for what is definitely going to be a generic, exceptionally low-quality webcam?
It could be a selfie cam that stays exposed when the Switch is docked. It could be built into the dock. For what they're charging it could definitely be included in the box. They even could just make the Switch universally compatible with any webcam. But nope, its a standalone security camera that nobody's going to buy.
2006 called. They want the Xbox Live vision camera that I bought on clearance for $7 just for the 3-month Live subscription card and never used, except for that one time in college I thought I could use it to review a movie, back.

it's effectively the same processor that Nvidia puts into its Jetson Orin hardware, customized for Nintendo's specific use case.
I agree. I've been eyeing the Orin since it came out, and before that I had a Jetson Nano (great machine), and I think it's a perfect candidate for the Switch 2. However, the Orin itself has increased its power consumption significantly compared to the previous version, so I have doubts about the full size of the gpu part. Or it may be the previous model)

I love that you actually interact with the community fairly often.

I read in the QA with Nintendo they said NEW games wont come in physical form anymore.
What you buy is the physical key that is put in the device and then that allows you to go download and play the game.
And from that point on you have to have the game card (physical key) inserted to play the game.

Sounds pretty back@sswards to me.

That’s probably mostly down to balancing storage and speed vs cost in those cartridges. MicroSD transfer speeds won’t cut it for modern load times.

$90 for the physical and it's not even the game itself? I'm out
