News Nintendo is restricting the Switch 2's USB-C port — most third-party docks and accessories won't work thanks to proprietary protocols

The one key difference between the switch dock and switch2 dock is the latter has a fan to cool its PCB.
Looking at a tear down, the dock's fan doesn't increase cooling performance of the main device.
So it seems like nintendo changed the features, just because they can.

The Switch 2 might be an extremely overpriced, cynical, anti-customer cash grab designed from the ground-up to rob fanboys...
Stole that right out of my head.

Sad as my kids will never know the joys of Nintendo like I did growing up. It didn't take really any coercing for their hearts to be stolen by the PC; I don't have to tell them "don't get a Switch 2" when explaining the differences between the ecosystems and what can and can't be done with either and let's just say they'll chose "correctly" 99% of the time. 😉

Nintendo has always been an odd company, but they really jumped into the anti consumer deep end recently. A lot of the anti piracy stuff is fine but....restricting third party add ons with no warning sucks. You should be able to use other things with this system. No reason but greed to not allow it.
Yep, and especially when you're talking about a standard like USB-C that essentially has mandated specs for the sake of interoperability (USB-IF expects that anything with a USB-C connector that hooks up to something with another USB-C connector, male into a female, just works as that's the CONSUMER'S EXPECTATION, rightly so) that Nintendo opted to not follow; it's like stealing the base IP to fast-track and cheapen the creation of one's own proprietary standard.

The console has already shown signs of slowing down sales and this fall will show the truth when parents don't buy this console and grandparents can't figure out what a switch 2 is Nintendo will be forced to either start releasing to other platforms

HUnfortunately, most users does not care and keep buying Switch and Nintendo games🤔😒
because the devs who make em aren't the oens being pricks. That would be the higher ups. You can hate a company's leadership and still enjoy a product made by devs.

Only reason I don't own 1 atm is price. It isnt worth it to me w/ such a small exclusive game list atm.

Nintendo has taken the crown for most greedy and evil corporation. And the fanboys continue to throw their money at them.

Nintendo has been a Vile company for decades. They would require game publishers to only sell games on Nintendo. Their greed on N64 games was over the top. Game companies had to pay Nintendo to allow them make the games, had to pay Nintendo to manufacture the Cartridges etc. That is why games like Turok were $89.99 back in 1997.

Proprietary USB-C charger? Ew, disgusting. That's a cheap Chinese crap move, I wouldn't expect something so putrid from a reputable company.

Nope, we do not care
You don't care that your normal USB-C cables and chargers that work for all your other USB-C devices won't work for this product, and conversely this company's USB-C cables and charger won't work for any of your other devices? USB-C is a standard, all devices are supposed to work with all cables and all chargers, anything USB-C should be able to plug into anything USB-C and it work. Making proprietary USB-C equipment for consumer use is just disgusting behavior, real scumbag level gross.

Sure they can. Original hardware never went anywhere, and flashcarts and the like are super cheap these days. Consoles like the Wii and 3DS can also be softmodded entirely without the need of special hardware. And since you've introduced them to the wonderful world of the PC, emulation is just a hop, skip, and a jump away. They might even find that more interesting than a console. I certainly did as a kid, and it's how I get to play the things I missed out on at that age. I was one of those "one game a year" kids, and it saves me from the gauging and scams of the collector market.

I can't stand this protective part of Nintendo. If it isn't about the hardware income then why do they care? I honestly think it should be illegal to intentionally block 3rd parties from making add ons.

I am close to refuse getting one but I can see the information is a little inflated.. they did this with switch 1. If everyone recalls, it took well over a year for third party manufacturers to get a 3rd party dock going. Fortunately they found work arounds.. if one manufacturer, found one others will, and if they start changing the encryption with every updated (shooting their foot to spite their), I am betting manufacturers will be ready.

its a damn shame how Nintendo has become such a anti-consumer company with this new switch generation, i loved the first switch i have over 300 physical full games in carts for it buts its like they want us to hate them or something.....
