So my question is: what if the controllers on the switch lite itself break ?

Can I just use some compatible controller and use my switch lite like that ?

You can pair controllers and joy-cons separate to the switch lite and use them, which is required for some games like Mario Party.

You can tap on the screen to get to the controller menu to sync the controllers.
