here is the video hopefully it will explain more also i can not find drivers any where for this motherboard pretty sure whoever built this took it out of a pre built pc and just added parts. when i use the ati card everything works fine but the problem is its dying and is no longer reliable to use for gaming ( freezing sound looping etc..) so thats why i bought this card was the best i could find locally (small town..) and can not order a card online. but when i put in the 740 its like my hard drive jsut vanishes the bios /pc will not detect it at all unless i put it in native ide mode but then it wont boot just says disk error but if i do not have it in that mode it wont detect anything execpt for the cd drive

Also i thought it might have been the hard drive so i bought a new one today same problem..

Strange, what happens to the hdd if you put ATI back?

I'd check the hdd's data cable is inserted properly, on the motherboard (and hdd). Is it using the old style ide cable? Its been a long time since using those but from memory, i think it mattered which side of the ide ribbon with the red line painted on the edging was connected.

If you're using sata all of that wont matter, just make sure ide/sata is connected properly on the motherboard, maybe bumped when replacing the gpu, only thing that would make sense to me, a gpu simply shouldn't fault the hdd unless you had power running through the pc while changing parts which im sure you didn't do.

if i put the ATI back in ( like i did to make this post and to respond ) pc works fine like nothing at all ever hapend and i hade the power unpluged when changing the cards all cables are good hardrives good idk what to do caint find a answer any where and there sata drives so idk why it will only show up in the bios under ide when the nivida card is in but with the ati card in works normaly

Radeon HD 4870

All ready tried that D:

This is a long shot but not even sure if possible.

The 4870 uses 2x 6pin PCIe supplementary connectors at the back of the card, are you using a molex adapter for either of those? The idea is far fetched but is it possible your hdd is also connected to that same line via a y split?

The gt740 only uses 1 6pin, so my guess is the other 6pin where the hdd is connected to is no longer getting power/not earthed by having it not connected to the ATI 4780 thus not completing power circuit.

Check where your hdd is getting power from.

no adapter just the standard cords that came with the psu ill upload some picture here ina bit

well nothing seems to work guess im stuck using my old card to it compltley dies/ i can afford anew ati card first time buying nivida and its not going well at all :fou: , thanks for your help tho any ways and trying to find me a answer / replying :)

If you have a friend you can borrow a gpu from, try that sometime or try the 740 in another comp see if it actually works and not sending your machine bonkers.

Also look into updating your bios if you haven't done so.

If you have a flashing utility in the bios itself that would make things easier. Just copy the bios rom to a fat32 usb stick.

Your welcome too, if anything else comes to mind i'll let you know. This is also mind boggling for me, would love to know whats doing this. Seems all the links above i posted with other people having similar issues go through the same ringer as here and no definite answer as to why.
