No 5.1 through hdmi ?

Hi I have a Lenovo y560 laptop connected to my receiver through the hdmi port which is connected to my 5.1 surround system. However, I am not able to get 5.1 surround sound only 2.1. If I use my auxiliary cord and connect to receiver I get 5.1 but not with hdmi? When I am connected by hdmi and I configure my speakers I can hear sound from all 5.1 but sound only plays 2.1 still. It seems to me that the realtek hd audio does not detect my hdmi port?
