Hello all, Today i updated my OS from Windows XP to Windows 7. Everything went well but my audio is now not working. And it says that my headphones nor my speakers are plugged in even tho they are. It shows i have the latest drivers.

I have googled around and see many having this problem after upgrading to windows 7. But I have not found a solution, I'm hoping one of you can help. This is very frustrating. 🙁 I have a job opportunity coming up but I can't do it without having sound.

Shows:
Realtek High Definition Audio
AMD High Definition Audio Device
as my sound cards. Not sure why theres 2. Which one is the real one. I have a custom built pc.

Solution
"which one is the real one"

Both of them are real. There's a dedicated Realtek sound chip on the motherboard, plus another sound chip on the AMD graphics card.

You don't need both, it's just that whoever built the PC installed a graphics card with a sound chip on it.

Did you check the motherboard maker's website for Windows 7 drivers for your mobo model? If no, do so now.
If they don't support Windows 7 for your mobo model you should find a driver that works on the Realtek website for the Realtek sound chip, you can then ignore the AMD one.
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false

But always use motherboard maker's drivers where possible as they will be a proper match for the hardware, will definitely work, and will give you all the features that it's supposed to give you. Driver direct from Realtek may not do that, may not even work at all.

This is the motherboard I have http://www.tul.com.tw/Global/products_mainboard_amd_TRS780-M1.aspx but not sure where to find the audio drivers.

And before I gotr your reply I did install the realtek one, but that didnt work. still no sound. So maybe its the onboard one I need to update if I can find it.

UPDATE:
the drivers are listed here http://www.tul.com.tw/Global/driver.aspx?keyword=TRS780-M1 but I only see Vista and XP. And when I click any of the download links it says server not found.

Found a BIOS update here http://www.tul.com.tw/Global/DlBIOS.aspx?keyword=TRS780-M1 that download link works(altho I didnt download). I was told that updating BIOS could help but It doesnt say what day it was released just "first released" so I dont know if that would help me, cause I probably have it already? And updating BIOS worries me.

There is your issue, you ran the Windows 7 setup without checking for drivers, you have a low tier maker older motherboard that does not have the drivers for Windows 7, since you can't even get the XP or Vista downloaded, you would need to contact the motherboard vendor for support. You can also look up the model ID of your hardware that is missing drivers in Device Manager and do a web search for some drivers based on that. Just make sure you get the drivers directly from the maker of the chips, you don't want to use any of the driver finding programs or web sites, they are just there to install spyware on your computer.

The AMD Audio device may be your video card HDMI audio.

You can also get a add-on sound card with Windows 7 drivers, would be a simple fix and should cost $20 or even less.
