No audio anymore on P7P55D with VIA HD Audio chip

Hi,

suddenly on both of my Operating systems on the same PC there is no sound anymore (nothing at all). I figured the problem cannot be the driver or any windows setting since it's the same on both windows installations and one of them I havent used for a while, so that they are in a different stage. HAs worked fine on both before.

I havent changed anything in the meantime, not hardware nor software. The speakers work fine. Once I plug them to my laptop, no problem. And yes they are plugged in correctly. Even plugging them to the other ports doesnt change anything.

SO I am suspecting that there must be a hardware failure. But I am really wondering if that's possible that only the sound stops working while everything else works fine.

Before I buy a new mainboard or soundcard I would like to ask you guys about your opinion. What else could cause this? If the audio chip is defective, buying a sound card should function, am I right?

I reinstalled the audio driver not the full chipset driver. But I believe since audio doesnt work anymore on both windows installations, the problem cannot be teh driver. what do you think?

When troubleshooting, never say, (it cannot be . . . ) It's very possable something is corupt (software) on your machine. Without re-installing your chipset drivers, you might not know for sure what's going on.

He's what I would do.

1. Check to see if the audio service is running (type services.msc into the run command)

2. If the above is running and your sound is not on mute, check your headset/speakers for any broken cable or disconnection

3. If all the above fails, check your bios and ensure your sound is enabled.

4. If All above fails, re-install your OS (one of them) and install fresh drivers.

5. If everything fails, it's possable the soundboard/chip on your mobo is bad. If you have the asus mobo p55 whatever for the 1156 socket, it should be under warrenty.

I had an issue on my cpu. I'm outputting via HDMI and somehow the audio default changed from Digital/HDMI to speaker output. Perhaps your issue is as simple as mine was. Once I went in the control panel and set it back to HDMI it was good to go. I'm annoyed that I can't output both at the same time though. Kind of annoying.

Please I've your problem too, no sound out from my speaker but all in the operating system is workin fine
i've reinstalled via driver and via audio deck but nothing changed

I can hear music from my pc using an'application on my iphone called audio server
via wifi, Is mean that all is working,

maybe the problem is the terminal jack?

do you solved?

Just to say you're not alone, i've also the same problem.

no sounds with windows and Linux (same computer) so it is not linked to the driver.

I get blue screen crashes which point to the VIA HD Audio Deck onboard sound. I've installed the driver update from the ASUS site; now I not only get blue screen crashes but cannot find any way to get sound from the speakers. I have plugged and unplugged cables even though they were not touched during the driver update download and install. I have tried every combination of check boxes on VIA's unfortunate UI, but can only get sound from the headset; nothing from the speakers. Is there any reasonable solution to VIA problems other than simply disabling it and buying a decent sound card? Thanks!

I also have P7P55D motherboard with VIA 1828S chipset. Audio works fine in my system. I have 8700a drivers installed.

A couple of things you can try:

1) Make sure the audio chipset is not disabled in BIOS

2) Make sure the default sound output device is what you are connecting your speakers to, e.g. analog audio, hdmi, or S/PDIF ( sometimes gfx card drivers change that to hdmi )

3) Make sure you uninstalled the previous VIA audio drivers before you have installed the new drivers.

4) Make sure you remove the VIA HD audio device from Device Manager and restart your computer before you install the new drivers

Those points of yours are all good and well... but maybe you can tell me how to prevent Windows 7 from reinstalling the old drivers right after reboot?

Anyway - I have another problem that might or might not be realted. I plugged in a new Graphics card - a Nvidia ENGT430 - into my computer. (I also have a P7P55D, running the same drivers as you are) and I had an interesting experience that I can't solve.
When I connect my monitor to the rgb-port on that car I loose sound. But if I use my DVI-D port on the same card I have sound.


Can anyone explain that?

If the drivers you have tried to install has not installed properly, Windows default drivers may reinstall upon bootup.

I suggest you to reinstall the audio drivers using the .INF method. Go to Device Manager, expand Audio, video controllers, double-click VIA HD audio item or open its properties, change to Driver tab and click update driver. Then show the path to the VIA audio drivers folder when the driver installation wizard starts. You should check the folders and locate the .inf file, either for 32-bit or 64-bit installation. The inf file is in VIA_Audio_V6018700a_xpVista_Win7\Driver\VIAHDAudio\Present\Drivers\HDVista64 or HDVista32\ for version 8700a.

Do not forget to uninstall the previous VIA drivers in Control Panel\Programs and Features.

Ok, thanks - I'll try that.

But my comment wasn't really about drivers not being properly installed - the thing is that if I first uninstall my present drivers, and then reboot Windows "helps" (Ohh, well... don't know if I want to call it help in some situations) out by installing it's default driver upon boot.

It's weird though - my audio is working when I use the DVI-D port, but not when I use my rgb port on the graphics card. Frustrating as hell and wasted a full day on it so far... gettingtempted to just deactivate my built in audio and plug in a cheap no-name card instead...

i've been troubling with this situation for 2 hours. i did some research and ppl keep telling me BIOS stuff. well i don't know how to configure bios. but i solved my problem

i have Asus P7P55D-E Pro with Via HD audio deck sound driver.

today suddenly my sound gone off.

and i can tell you honestly if you use windows 7 it's problem solver on management desk is doing a goddamn job on its own.

do these steps and you will get your audio back.

Go to My computer, right click and Manage. > device manager >
under the audio , video and game stuff find Via H.D. Audio > right click and remove it.

then right click on audio, video and game > search for hardware changes. ( u can do it from the top, just below the HELP tab) it will find that u have no audio driver, and it will install it by itself.

then

go to management desk > problem solver > audio.. follow the steps and say 'yes' to him when it asks to correct some wrong things about your audio.


then ta-daa!


i got my audio back this way, safe and sound.
