No audio device is installed..

Hi, i recently purchase a 2G RAM and installed to my computer, after i on back the computer i notice my audio is inactive, but when i change back to the old RAM that is 3G, the computer running find!!

Pls help!! what is the problem with my computer?

So you used to have 3Gb of memory and now you have 2Gb ? or do you have 5Gb now ?
are you sure the problem wasn't solved by restarting the pc while you switched the memories ?

Hi SharperZero, i use to have 3Gb (2Gb+1Gb) of DDR2 RAM and now i upgraded it to 4Gb (2Gb+2Gb). The problem is still there even i restart the pc.

Ok, and those new 2Gb memories, can you post their models number and brand ? they could just be incompatible with each other.
So the audio device shows as it wasn't installed with the new memory or is just not working ? have you tested both 2Gb sticks by themselves and on different slots on the motherboard ? tried to re-install the audio driver ? update the motherboard BIOS ?

Hi,the new 1 is Kingston KVR800D2N6/2G, the old 1 is Kingmax KLCE88F-B8KU5 NHF S, S/N: W93003715001 DDR2-667.
And my mother board is MSI K9VGM-V( MS-7253 Ver:1.0 ), OS Window 7 Ultimate, Processor AMD Athlon 64x2 Duo Core.

Ok can you test just with the new memory and with the new memory and that 1Gb old memory ?

HI, just tried what you suggested, i seem ok, the sound device is running normally, but once i change the RAM to 4Gb, the problem come back again!!

Well i know of 32bit OS having problems with more than 3Gb of memory, you might want to update your OS as that had been fixed for newer versions of windows or just re-install windows on 64-bit setting.
Other than that i don't see why you would be having this problem, maybe you're having some compatibility problem with your new 2Gb memory and old 2Gb memory but i can't seem to see how that would cause a problem with the audio device, again you might want to update your BIOS.

So if you're running a 32bit windows try updating it or re-installing in 64bit, if you're already using it in 64bit try updating your BIOS.
If you need any help with that let me know and i can walk you through the process.

Are you using Service Pack 1 ? if not you might want to go to windows update and make sure to download it.
If that doesn't fix the problem you might want to update your BIOS then

Ok so your OS is not the problem, i guess your best choice now is to update your BIOS.
Check your motherboard model and brand, go to the manufacturer site and download the latest BIOS and than depending on your motherboard the installing process is different.

i already updated my bios using MSI liveUpdate 5, but still cannot!! could it be that my motherboard not compatible using 4Gb?

From what i read around the internet you aren't the only one with that problem, it seems any time you add 4Gb of memory into your motherboard the audio device won't work, this motherboard seems to work fine with 3Gb but not with 4Gb, i really don't understand why.

Hi SharperZeroCool, Thank for the advice the past few days. i also think i need to change the motherboard, but before that, i will exchange the new ram to the same brand and try before i change the board, that the last resort to try out.

No problem, Good luck with your problem and hope you get to fix it soon, like i said you probably just need a Motherboard upgrade.
