I am having an issue where I get no sound from applications such as games in windows 10, as an example if I click on the slider in the volume control I get the normal sound to indicate that the volume has changed however if I open a game I don't get any audio. Strangely I get audio from TeamSpeak but not from applications such as windows media player or media player classic. I have restarted my audio services and reinstalled drivers, reset my PC using the reset tool in windows and chosen to keep files as I wanted to avoid a full reinstall. If I restart the PC the issue persists however if I shut down and power on again I can open a game get audio then exit out of the game and restart it and I at that point have no audio in any application apart from TeamSpeak. I have tried fully shutting down and then when I turn back on not using TeamSpeak and launching and closing a game but I get the same issue but windows sounds still work, I am even able to go into sounds and test the various windows sounds and get audio it just seems to be the majority off applications that are affected. I am really stuck at this point and don't know what could be causing this.

Also this issue is effecting all audio devices, I get no sound from my monitor speakers or my USB headphones, however if I use anything like YouTube for example I will have audio from that.

Hi,

By the way whats the speaker that you're using and what cable do you run on them? (HDMI or 3.5mm)

If you're using HDMI and using the built in speaker of your monitor please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help.
- Go to Device Manager and uninstall your graphics card driver (NVIDIA, AMD or Intel).
- Do the same in Programs and Features, uninstall any software related to your graphics card.
- Next is to download and install the latest graphics card driver from it's support site.
- Once the latest driver has been installed reboot your laptop for all the changes to take effect.
- After the reboot do set your monitor as the default playback device.

If your using an external speaker using 3.5mm:
- Do uninstall/reinstall the sound card driver from Device Manager.
- Download and install the latest sound driver from the manufacturer site.
- Reboot your laptop then make sure to set your speaker as the default playback device.

Do also run Windows Update and install all updates available. And lastly, if all these will not work I would suggest doing a clean install of Windows 10.

I have done fresh install and reinstalled everything, I am still having the same issue. I have also installed a previous graphics driver from before I was having the issue and nothing has changed any suggestions?

I am using a HDMI cable and sound should be through monitor speakers, I also have a corsair VOID USB headset and I get the same issue when using that

System Specs:

Corsair 750D Airflow Case
MSI 990FX Gaming Motherboard
AMD FX 9590 4.7GHz CPU
8GB Kingston RAM
MSI Green GTX 970 4GB OC Gaming Edition

I have installed windows 8.1 and I am no longer having any issues, I believe this to be a problem with windows 10 and NVidia Audio Drivers. I have another PC running all AMD hardware and it has no problems with windows 10 and audio in games.
