Hi all,

My old GPU died evga 1080sc so bought a new one, nothing special just a gigabyte Eagle 6700xt, card is decent for the price. Card works well but no audio comes out over the HDMI, in fact it doesn't even show that it's connected, it just shows 4 AMD high definition audio entries in the legacy sound panel, all red.

On installing the card, it was seen then I installed the latest auto detect driver (adrenaline), graphically it works as expected, but no audio.

Another strange problem is that windows locks to 640x480 almost like it doesn't see that other resolutions are available, so I just made 1080p with CRU then they're all available again..

ATM im connecting to an old HDTV which worked fine on my old card, it's just 1080p.

Pc is quite old now

Asrock z97 extreme4
I5 4670k @4Ghz
16GB DDR3 RAM
Evga 800w gold modular PSU.

Prior to getting this card I only used the 8 pin to 6+2 connections, there's a daisy chained 6 pin hanging off the 6+2 part which I thought I could use and it did indeed work, I thought that may be the problem so have for a twin molex to 8 pin so the GPU has now got two dedicated power inputs, but the audio problem is still there.

I've installed several older drivers, even used driver booster in the hope it would find the right one and get me back in business but no, beyond that I've turned off hd audio as I've read that this may also be a cause of this issue.

Have read that the "generic audio driver" could be used against the cards audio in device manager but I simply don't have that driver on my pc.

Have reset windows (keeping files) then full reinstallation of windows, but nope same issue.

I'm thinking maybe it's the motherboard / CPU simply isn't compatible but I thought I'd ask, just find it odd that graphically it'll work and sound can be output via the motherboard just not digitally via HDMI.

I have no input for displayport on this TV.

Have updated my bios but it's so old.

I have my eye on a new set-up, but cant do it til next month.

5700x ryzen cpu
550 MSI motherboard.
16GB ddr4 Corsair vengeance 3200mhz

£315 for the lot..

If anyone has any ideas about this then I'd appreciate it.

Cheers 👍🏼

Try a different HDMI cable
Use ddu uninstaller to remove Nvidia driver's
Reboot and install the latest and.com driver

You can try:
In device manager, there is a yellow triangle at the "high definition audio bus" list item. Right click and uninstall device. Then right click on the empty side of device manager, and press "scan for hardware changes". This will re-detect the device and properly install it in under a minute.

Slightly off topic from your issue, don't use the twin molex to 8 pin. Molex only has 1 power and 1 earth that's used, and god help you if the 2 molex come from the same cable. Even if they are 2 separate cables, you're actually much better off using the daisy chain 6+2 connector, especially if the molex was powering the 8 pin and the proper cable was only using a 6 pin.

Yea have uninstalled the driver and tried a tonne of different ones that exhibit the same symptom..

Have also reinstalled windows several times so there shouldn't be any drivers left behind, I did initially use ddu as I normally do but nah same thing.

The hdmi is a shout, sounds odd but I don't have one here 😂 I used to have loads, I'll grab on and test,.fingers crossed.

Cheers.

Yea I did actually worry about that myself, although nothing else is using it as power.. so it does work but yea I agree..I'll stick with the daisy chain, I have some dedicated cables arriving today so will be using them when they arrive.

Thanks man 👍🏼

Will come back and let you guys know how it's gone.. I've got a decent 4m HDMI I can use, I'll grab that and report back...cheers.

Got another hdmi cable, higher grade but same thing, tested but it simply doesn't want to work, changed drivers to some others but again nothing.

Plugged in a speaker using the 3.5mm Jack from the motherboard, works fine, just means I need to use speakers (PC isn't at a desk so not ideal)

Tested on a different TV , actually a projector Xgimi Elfin, same issue.

Replaced PSU cables with high grade braided versions instead of the molex to 6+2 on the GPU.

Temps on air is sub 30c (down to about 28) max 51 on load, performance is better than I had before.

Still got my eye on new kit, the fault for me is clearly pointed at the motherboard / CPU combo now.

If anyone else has a way to get it working over HDMI, I'm all ears.

How is the display showing up in Windows? I have my TV connected to my PC and while it doesn't show the exact model it does show Samsung. If yours is showing up as generic perhaps this is why the audio isn't being detected. It sure seems like you've done everything to get it working.
