So recently my friend wanted to install his gpu (MSI Geforce GTX 970) into my computer to test it out. BTW my pc specs are:
Geforce GTX 960
AMD FX 8350
Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
Running on Windows 10 home 64-bit
No sound card, using onboard audio.
My friend switched out his gpu with mine and played csgo. Everything seemed to work great, sound was working and everything. After I switched out his graphics card with mine, my pc isn't able to detect my headphones (btw I don't have speakers so I can only use headphones). The device is there under playback devices but says is not connected. I have tried for hours on end to fix this such as updating drivers, deleting and reinstalling drivers, and installing realtek because for some reason it wasn't on my pc although the box for my motherboard says I should have it. Under playback devices the only things that are detected are Realtek Digital Output and Realtek Digital Output (Optical). The headphones are there as Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output but cant detect my headphones even in the rear panel audio jack. I have even tweaked the realtek settings that the internet says to do but still nothing. I checked to see if any audio related wires were unplugged in the motherboard but they were all plugged in. Any suggestions would help and I would really like to fix this problem. Thanks in advance. Also please feel free to ask questions because if I didn't cover something I will gladly explain it.

This might help

Search troubleshoot under cortana
Select the control panal option
on the pop up window, select view all from the menu on the left
Run the Playing audio troubleshooter - if it wants a restart, let it and rerun it again

You can also run the Hardware & devices troubleshooter

you may need to run them a few times.

they helped me a few months ago when i had problems getting sound out of all my outlets.

Thanks for the help Colif I have tried what you have suggested but sadly it did not work. When I troubleshoot Playing Audio at the end it just says no devices are plugged and when I troubleshoot Hardware & devices it takes me to realtek and realtek says there is something plugged in while playback devices says that nothing is plugged in. It also tells me to restart (which I have many times) but I don't think anything has changed. I am starting to think something is wrong with my motherboard because maybe my friend was static when switching his gpu with mine and caused my mother board to fry but idk. Thank you and more suggestions are welcome.

you can update your drivers using this site: http://www.guru3d.com/files-details/realtek-hd-audio-2-79-driver-download.html
last motherboard driver from Asus was last year but that is a little closer. Getting drivers from the actual realtek site seems impossible

its odd, the settings in my realtek manager match the sound control panel, one made in one place changes the other. they shouldn't be acting against each other. They should agree.
