No audio issue?

Hello!
I recently ran into an issue with my win7 laptop. whenever i start a voice chat with someone with steam, all other audio shuts off for the computer. the only way to get audio back is to restart my machine. even if i shut down steam, i dont get audio back. this started happening a few days ago.
does anyone know how this happened?

What software / hardware changes did you introduce? Try another software to see if it is fixed. Narrow it down to what's causing it. Difficult to diagnose something like this over a forum. you can check this forum: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2665207

all i did was start a steam chat. thats it. and plugged in my headphones. this doesnt happen on my desktop, starting to think that this is the result of all the bloatware installed on the laptop.....
