i agree you just need the right driver!

the computer is an hp 9710 and it has a quanta motherboard, i think the sound card which is intergrated is bad, can't install a driver if the os can't find a device and i am running win 7

yes i have tried all of that how much does it cost to get a new sound processor soldered in or can i purchas e a usb sound card ?

You can get a PCI sound card for about $30 depending on if you have the open slot on the motherboard or not.
