I have an Emachine computer, model number ET1331G, using Windows 7, and Realtek audio. I have unistalled, reinstalled, and updated the driver several times and nothing has changed. Is there anything else I can do or do I have to take my computer to a professional?

Sound devices isn't listed in my device manager. There is however system devices. I clicked on that and High Definition Audio Controller is listed.

HDMI outputs sound as well. If you have a TV with HDMI it should play the sound through the HDMI cable.

ok, but how do I go about getting sound from an HDMI jack?

thats the only way I know of. You have to plug it into an HDMI TV/Monitor that has speakers.

Do you think a full system recovery would get the sound to work again?

try this (taken from another thread):

Go to device manager and select your audio device from the list and open it.

Click on the 'Driver' tab and select 'Update driver'.

Let the computer try to do it automatically first and if that doesn't work, choose to find the driver yourself by browsing to it.

Now, there should be a folder, probably on the C: drive where your drivers are extracted to when the driver package runs. Try to locate the Realtech folder and see if there is a sub-folder that contains 64-bit and 32-bit files.

This is where the relevant .inf files should be.

Browse to this folder, depending on whether your system is 32- or 64-bit, in the 'Update driver' screen and locate the .inf file.

Open it.

Does the driver install?

There were no sub-folders. Would a system recovery get the sound to work again?

It might well do, worth a try.
