No BIOS on Sony VAIO Laptop

I wanted to turn my old Sony laptop into a dos machine. I got a bootable dos disc from a friend. Booted the laptop with the dos disc. It said it needed to format the hard drive. It did so and was installing dos when it prompted me to insert Disc 2 into the drive. (My friend made this disc from a set of floppies which apparently didn't work). It would not allow me to continue so i had to abort the install. Long story short, when I tried to reboot the laptop, the screen remained completely black. No cursor, no VAIO logo...nothing. I think I may have formatted the BIOS. Even if I put in my recovery disc, I get nothing. I thought BIOS was always on a separate chip...but perhaps not. Any ideas as to how to fix this?

OK, do it all over again. Do u see the HDD LED light/indicator flashing? Do u see the screen flash sth instead of completely dark? Contact your friend and make sure if the laptop wascompletely OK or problems like this one occurred?

I've had the laptop for years....never a problem with it. It worked everytime perfectly until I tried to install dos. It formatted the drive, which I think perhaps had a hidden partition on it that included the BIOS. Now I get nothing. I don't see the HDD LED light flashing...the CD drive light flashes when a bootable disc is in it....but nothing else happens. It would be a fairly big coincidence to me, but perhaps I had a motherboard failure just as I was loading dos. I dunno....
