hello, i broke my hardrive, from dropping my computer, it was in sleep mode, it worked once when i woke it, than blue screen, than ''no boot device found'' when reboot. i bought another hardrive, set it in the computer (laptop). The same message ''no boot device found'' i runned diagnostic, it said there was indeed a hardrive. But nothing change. I tried to boot with windows 7 cd, it worked, and I installed windows, tought each time it rebooted i had to press f12 boot option windows boot manager, or it would display the same message. Than it finished installing, than i reboot, still says, no boot device, still have to go by UEFi boot windows boot Manager. Id'like my computer to start directly but legacy boot hardware doens't work, have any idea? my computer is a dell vostro

Do you have any USB memory devices plugged in. I have seen computers look to the USB drive and when it doesn't find it bootable, not search for another and post the message "no boot device found". In these instances, I have just removed the offending USB drive and restarted the computer.

Another thing you'll want to check is that the HDD is selected in the BIOS as a boot device.

no usb memory device, i just read another thread that said ''it could be the mother board, look for Sata in your bios'' i looked there is one thing not detected, mSata device
