No boot device

So my internal HD cord ripped out of my laptop and I bought an external hdd SATA to plug in my hard drive into it when I try to boot from the external directly it says that no bootable device was found. I changed bios boot order and legacy mode on

How did the internal HD cord rip out? Was some repair or replacement being done?

My immediate thought is that there likely more damage. Especially if power was on.

Damage may not even be visible.

Hello ganglsr2, try the drive in another computer and see what happens. What brand is the HDD?
