Question No boot disk has been detected error after SSD install

I was gifted a windows computer which functioned well apart from a failed hard drive. I removed the hard drive and drilled holes through it as it had medical information on it and I didn't want to violate HIPPA. I installed a new SSD drive that I was careful to select based on compatibility. The computer after turning on tells me that no boot disk can be detected which I am aware means that it cannot read windows. How can I reinstall windows on this machine without repurchasing a license. I have the product key for the current windows install if that helps.

I am actually not sure. I didn't ask the owner before they gave it to me. The product key was for windows 7 but I suspect the OS was updated to windows 10 before the hard drive failed

You can install Win 10 no problem.
If it was Upgraded to Win 10 previously, it should just activate itself.

If it was still at Win 7, you can apply that Win 7 license key to the Win 10 install, and it should activate itself.

Read here for how to create your own Win 10 USB install, and do the install:
