New build when I try to power up only get a twitch of the power supply fan. Replaced power supply no change. Eliminated gpu and tried another mb no change. Even tried a different case thinking there might be a short in the case.

I do get a light on the mb so it is getting power.

You've tried most things already, aka the GPU, Motherboard, Case.

Seems like the CPU could be part of this, is there any damage on the Socket or on the CPU?

Try resetting the CMOS by removing the battery while the power is unplugged, hold down the power button that turns your system on, wait about 20-30 seconds, reinsert the battery, then plug in the power cable and try booting from there.

I will try it is a brand new mb. Also a new cpu and the reason I did this build is because my last system did the exact same thing. The only components I carried over to the new build were the ssd, gpu, and dvd drive.

Is this a symptom of a bad cpu? Wouldn't it try to post? How can I eliminate or confirm a cpu issue?

Well if you try to post with everything else, and that doesn't work, you cannot try to post without a CPU, so it sort of rules it down to that.

You could try to RMA your CPU to see if that works, it might take some time but it'd be worth it if it is successful.

Try booting with everything disconnected, just the CPU. Then add components one by one.

Can you list the CPU and motherboard?

Are you certain the CPU is compatible? (sometimes a BIOS update is needed)

Did you confirm all cables, such as the POWER cable next to the CPU (on the motherboard)?

Short in the case? (I highly doubt it... where exactly would this be?)

Forgot about that too, whoops 😛

Glad i'm not the only one who thinks its to do with the CPU/MoBo

He's pretty much eliminated everything else unless he's unlucky with two components in a row being defective.

Update:
I don't think he mentioned the DDR3/DDR4 memory. If that wasn't tested properly, I'd use only a SINGLE STICK, and see motherboard manual for the correct slot. Try swapping to a different stick if no joy.

I don't think I remember a bad stick preventing the CPU fan from starting up though.

*I assume the CPU fan was tested, and is also plugged in?

That won't require an update, and as @Photonboy just stated, did you test the RAM?

I would go ahead and start from a barebone system, connect just the monitor and PSU, with just the CPU installed (With the CPU cooler obviously) and try and boot, if it gets further then the CPU and Motherboard are good.

Memory is Ripjaws V series 2 x 8gb DDR4 2400 in the correct slots.

I will take it apart and try running it out of the case with minimal connected to see if it will even attempt to post. May call intel about a return.

On a side not this is my first intel build. Everything previous was AMD.
