Hi, yesterday I bought an i3 4150 and I managed to install it on my ga-g31m-es2c motherboard. After that I noticed that PC wouldnt boot or display something and not even made the beep sound. I searched google and I found that this cpu is not compatible with my motherboard which is my fault because I didnt know that cpus had compability issues. Then I replaced the i3 with my old cpu that was working, but then I saw the same problem still exist. Have I burnt the motherboard?

Solution
well hopefully nothing but you should look at a 9 series board for that haswell refresh chip that will / should eliminate any bios issues

a 8 series board does support refresh chips but then they need a bios up date to do so and you stand that risk of the 8 series board not having the right bios on it out of the box then your stuck again if you don't have a supported cpu to use to flash with

so to me for that refresh chip better safe then sorry and go for a 9 series board for out of the box compatibility

Uhh I think you're correct about the pins, it was the first time for me to install a cpu so I didnt know :/ , what can i do now?

Man that is some bad CPU mismatch. Now that you say that the pins on the MOBO are bent there is a very slim chance that you can get it to work. Use a pair of tweezers to correct the pins that appear bent. Be sure you do it very carefully. If you break any of the pins or any of the pins are already broken its game over.

Now that I checked it again, it is worse than I thought....

I dont think its the thermal paste so.....burnt..?

Looks like one of the pins is missing too. Game Over I guess.

Oh...The faults of an amateur. Thank god its the old cpu and I would have upgraded motherboard anyway because I want new ram slots too, I just need to stay a lot of time without pc. Thank you all for your support! :wahoo:

A new cpu? I hope you tell me about the one in picture that seems burnt. That's my old one, I ve got a new one yesterday the i3 one. I hope you dont mean that i damaged the new too.
That's the pic for my new cpu:

Does it have any problems?

The CPU looks good. No burn marks or anything. Hope for the best! Also be careful when you build your new PC. Read the compatibility list from the motherboard manufacturer carefully and ensure that your CPU is supported before buying it.

I will buy Asrock H81M-DGS + 2 new rams since it has DDR3 slots. This time Im going step by step from a youtube video 😀

sounds like a plan

now one thing when you get that board is to see what bios is on the board that chip is supported but under bios 1.20 so if your board comes to you with a bios rev under 1.20 or first release bios [1.00 ] you may have to flash the bios to atleast 1.20 for that chip to work on it

I use asrock and every board I got from like newegg came with its first release bios on them ] now that don't mean yours will but all my asrocks been that way so far..

so with that you would then need a supported cpu that supported under all bios or at first release in order to flash to a later bios for your chip if it don't post with the 4150

I just noticed that the i3 4150 is a haswell refresh that board is a 8 series look at an 9 series board instead

like this one for example

http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H97M%20Pro4/index.us.asp?cat=CPU

1150 Core i3 i3-4150(C0) Haswell-R 3.5GHz 3MB 54W-- '' All ''

with it your i3 4150 will work under any bios [all ] right out of the box no need to flash

Hmm I hope it wont happen because Im scared to borrow the cpu from my brother after I saw what I did to mine. I wonder what else will I come up while im building it......I hope nothing.
