My current specs are as follows:

Amdfx6100-6 core processor-OC to 3.7ghz
Nvidia gt640
Cooler master 460 watt psu
Gigabyte GA-78lmt-S2 motherboard
16gb ddr3 ram @ 1600Mhz
Windows 10 64 bit

My issue is that my pc fails to boot only when I insert a gtx 1050ti into the pcie slot. The gt640 does not cause this issue, but due to how poorly it performs I desired a significant upgrade. Given the model of my motherboard, I was told that the BIOS was incompatable with more modern gpus but was told by a different source that it should have been a non issue. I am okay with having to settle for less than a 1050ti

Ultimately, is the psu faulted? (Nearly 4 years old) is the gpu DOA? Or do I need a new mobo altogether? The card does not require a power connector as it draws all power soley from the slot. Thanks so much.

I have already reseated multiple times as an added measure, but to no avail. The pcie slot should still at least be alive given that my older gpu will work flawlessly in it. If the new card is dead that is a bummer. There is only one pcie slot on this gigabyte board.

Trying to look for some answers from online because this should work in this motherboard since it has the pci slot!

Verify that the graphics card is fully and properly seated into the PCI-e slot.

Verify that power is being run to the graphics card from the PSU (if required, as not all graphics card require additional power from the PSU).

Verify that the motherboard CMOS / BIOS settings are set so that the primary display is the PCI-e graphics card, with the graphics card NOT installed onto the motherboard. Also, verify that the other motherboard CMOS / BIOS settings are set to the default settings.

Verify that the power cables that run from the PSU to the motherboard are fully and properly seated.

You could try resetting the CMOS on the motherboard!

I have checked cables and they are firm and secure and have been reseated. This gpu model does not require power connectors. Cmos has been dealt with prior as I both reset and updated the bios today actually, following this problem. PEG/PCI is the setting in bios for the display. Again, I was told that gtx 10 series cards require uefi over the older bios format, but I have no idea. This card is quite large but I have put strong force on it to get it to lock into the slot, not strong enough to damage something though. I am willing to be patient with this. I even purchased a new dvi cable since the old one was wearing down.

Well I thought I was on to something by shifting some bios options around using the onboard video, but nothing. Given that this soley relates to the new gpu it may be either non functional or incompatable with my mobo/bios. Hmm...It can of course be retuned or exchanged if that truly is the case.

Any further insights? Torn between either incompatability relating to legacy bios and this gtx 10 series gpu or the card being doa. Of course there is a slim to none chance of getting a refund and a mere replacement would do nothing if it really is just incompatable with this older mobo. Seems I may have spent 200 bucks far sooner than I should have, as I am broke.
