No boot/post

Alright I have a question regarding my pc components and
Im not sure which pc part it is.
My problem is that my comp won't stay on for very long
For example:
I have everything connected all together perfectly fitting in the slots.
But when I plug my +5vsb in the cpu power connector. My computer flashes on for a sec or two
then shuts off. ( even when turned off I get a blue light when the power button is on )

I don't smell anything or hear anything out of the ordinary but Im wondering what pc part is causing the problem.

I did a little experimenting with my pc. I plugged my graphics card in and hooked it up and my computer turned on like a normal pc should. But when I took it out it did like I said earlier.

Im thinking its my: cpu, powersupply,or harddrive.

Well it could be either insufficient power or a faulty graphics card.

It would really help if you could post specs.

It could be your motherboard or psu...
have another psu? u can try it to see whether your psu is working or not...

Specs (this was bought part by parft by the way)

Everything is running at stock, I haven't touched any volts or speeds.
I don't have another psu either 🙁

I don't see anything that should be stressing that PSU, but it is entirely possible that is the problem.

If it is really a no post problem, then the HD is also very unlikely to be the problem.

That pretty much leaves CPU, Mobo, RAM, video.

Is this a completely new build, a computer that previously worked, or cannibalized/used parts? Basically, what I am asking is if any of these components have a last known good state that can be used as a benchmark?

If not, best bet is to start swapping out parts one by one. It looks like that motherboard has onboard video, so I would completely remove the video card for all testing. If I read the original post right, you still have problems when removing the video card.

Try booting with only one of your RAM sticks installed, and check both of them this way. I would try this first after removing the video card just because it is the easiest to test, followed by the PSU (IMO). Also seriously consider removing both sticks and installing a single stick that you know works in another system (obviously still DDR2 800). Swap out another PSU in there that has been verified good in another system.

If neither of those work, time to test a different processor and/or mobo.

1) Yes, it is a new build, but the only scraped parts was the CD-ROM drive. But I had it working it all working for awhile before this all happened. Then it went crazy on me.

2) I've tried removing the gpu,but it my system only stays on when I have it plugged in.

3) I've tried the Ram in each slot,but to no prevail. I also RMAed my mobo, so I'm skeptical of that. But i will have to try a fresh stick of ram and maybe a psu.

* My cpu pins were bent and I straighten them out. >.>

This is what johnny and I are having trouble with. The +5vsb line is one wire in the main motherboard power plug (the purple wire, to be exact). It 's impossible to plug it in separately.

We are trying to figure out what you are trying to ask.

What I meant to ask is, why is my computer "flashing" (all lights fans and components start up) me when I have my cpu power connector in.
But when I have my cpu power connector in, my computer stays on ( no boot or post just everything running).

My guess would be a bad video chip because the video card by passes the chip if the computer works with the video card this could be the problem ask Google they will give you info on the problem

Are you sure, because it doesn't work without a vid card in it either

If it works with the video card in leave in it just by passes the on board video anyway you have me mixed up I thought you said it didn't work with out the video card don't be on plugging wires in an out with the power on there is a thermo set up in the cpu fan if the fan doesn't work the system will not stay on this is to kept the processor from over heating are you sure you do not have a wire plugged in the wrong place if the hard drive is bad the hard drive will not load windows or will be slow if it works with the video card then the video chip is bad if it didn't work with the video card then the power supply is weak if you have an old board an don't have money for a new one just Google cheap computers an they will tell you where to buy I got an old IBM 3yrs. for $149 I see guy's get them on E-Bay for less or you could get an a motherboard like yours on E-Bay cheap just use smart bidding if your motherboard is bad than by replacing it the computer will work as far as checking the power supply you can check it by on plugging all the wires from the motherboard plug the cord in the wall socket there are some smaller wires on the 20/24 pin connector take piece of wire strip the ends stick it in one of the small wire connectors an kept jumping the smaller wire connectors until the power supply turns on there is no power until the power supply turns on then take a volt meter an check the volts in all the other connectors the sticker on the power supply will tell what volts you should in all connectors you should have either 3v.,5v.or 12v. or you can go to E-Bay or another supplier an get a power supply checker I think they are $10 or less you could also tell Google the problem they always have an answer if you have at least a 350w. good power supply you can just upgrade the motherboard to any board from a duo core to a quad core buy a DDR2 the parts are cheaper an they work as good when installing a new board make sure all mounting line up if they don't shim the board up if the new board circuit touches metal then you see some smoke you can shim it up with little pieces of plastic pipe or any thing that isn't a conductor of electric

So are you trying to point to the power supply?
I've already had my mobo rma ed so, I'll try to visit a repair store. But I still need help!
