Question No Boot

A while ago my laptop would not boot. While I tried many solutions that I found on the internet none worked.

I did manage to remove all my files.

Can I just reformat the hard drive and the reinstall an older version of windows (probably 95) and will this version be automatically updated?

Make and model laptop? Laptop specs?

For the most part I would not expect much success (if any) starting over again with Windows 95 as the initial OS.

What solutions have you tried?
