Hi,
this is my first thread (sorry in advance for bad english)
A friend of mine give me a laptop toshiba c855 series with ''No bootable device - Please restart system''
I read about that topic on several forum's and tried next things:
1. pulled out and returned in battery
2. bought new sata HDD
3. changed boot order (when I tried to install new copy of windows)
None of theese things gave any result. In bios boot order menu (when I placed new HDD ) its the new name (WD...) so the laptop sees the disc but starting message is still the same.
When i try to install new version of windows (after placing optical drive on firs place on boot menu) it doesn't give the standard option ''pres any key to continiue'' like every other time when I install windows, it just give me the anoying ''No bootable device - please restart system'' message.
Please help me, i feel there is no way out of this and I've been reading two days and nights.
Thanks in advance

first remove the old hdd and only using new hdd.. (I assume your old HDD is somewhat DoA)

then install the new OS in the new HDD....

To make sure it will load installation disk u need to change the bios to boot from cd-rom/optical drive..
sometimes it listed as brand and model names (if using AHCI) ex samsung ZZ-20, pioner DVDR-120, etc.............
(choosing this instead generic cd-rom)

make sure the installation cd is in good condition...

I placed a new HDD, set up a boot priority, message is still the same...

I did that also, I even tried with external cd/dvd drive... still same message ''check media fail'' no bootable device

check media fail usually means the disk is not detected, now i'm confused...

can u try copy all of the content of the disk to usb stick/pen drive (using other system)?
Then use the usb as the installation usb (also change in bios after the usb is plunged)

this is last effort, if this also fails then I'm run's out of idea....

Hey just seeing this thread after googling a problem with my toshiba c855d. I gave it to my son for christmas and bought it black friday 2012. I don't remember it coming with a disc but would have to double check. He told me he got that same message. When i turn it on I saw that message as well so what do I need to do. I'm not sure how to get to any other screen to do anything....................Please help
