No built in WiFi on my motherboard!

Hi guys, I have purchased a motherboard that doesn't have built in WiFi. How will I be able to solve this problem? I would prefer an ethernet connection but I'm not sure what I'd need in preparation.

Your motherboard will have an ethernet port. If you have to have WIFI then you have a choice between a USB adapter and a PCIe x1 card. Get an adapter with external antennas and don't get a tiny usb adapter.

If they are large enough to have a decent antenna then fine. But the tiny ones don't have enough space for a decent antenna.

That is the problem. The "chicklet" sized adapters are too small to have a decent sized antenna built-into them. There performance is usually subpar compared to an adapter that has a standard sized stick antenna.

Dial up "works" but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. Same goes for the tiny USB WIFI adapters.

All you need is a Cat5e ethernet cable from your PC to the router.

Your motherboard has an ethernet port.

How long is a piece of string?
How long a cable is up to you to determine. However long you think it is, add 30%.

Well my router is no further than 1.5m from where my pc will be.

I would get a 3m (10ft) cable. That way you have enough slack to work on your PC without pulling the router out of position.
