[SOLVED] No connection over ethernet

Dell W7 HP

When I plug my computer into an open ethernet port I always get an error that IE is unable to detect a connection. I have now bought and tried a plug and play USB to ethernet adapter. When I install that I get the same error. Any thoughts?

Update your post to include full system hardware specs. OS is Windows 7 - correct?

Did you try another known working Ethernet cable between the Dell computer and the Century Link Router?

Did you download, reinstall, and reconfigure the applicable network adapter drivers for both the original ethernet adapter and then later, the new USB to Ethernet adapter.

Were the drivers downloaded via the manufacturer's website?

Who has admin rights to the router? You may need help from that person to get the Dell reconnected.

Does a different computer behave the same way? Then it's the port you're plugging into.
