No crossfire option

I bought 2 290s and planned to crossfire them but there is no option in the Radeon settings. My motherboard supports it...

I run 1 through a riser and it appears in the Radeon settings but no crossfire option

Do both cards work fine on their own? And through that riser? I don't mean they turn on and you can see something, a full test in a game or benchmark. First though would be an issue with that riser adapter, it just adds another point of failure.

Yes I can run games perfectly fine with each card by themselves through the riser...
