[I managed to boot my computer from Hiren's Boot CD. I booted into Mini XP. How do I select the desktop icons? I no longer have a curser? I want to run my virus and malware program? I want to fix a problem of not being able to boot into safe mode./i]

Solution
MiniXP is command-line only, using the keyboard. There's no cursor because it doesn't support a mouse. No icons either, for the same reason. It would be illegal for the makers of Hirens Boot CD to include a 'normal' copy of Windows XP, that's why you only get a stripped-down command-line version just for rescue purposes.

If you can't get Safe Mode to run on your Windows XP, it usually means you've got some faulty hardware, but malware is also a possibility. To to run a virus scan without Windows, use a purpose-made boot CD which contains antivirus software such as the free Comodo Rescue Disc: http://www.comodo.com/business-security/network-protection/rescue-disk.php
