For some reason the when sending a fax the modem in my Dell Dimension does
not find a dial tone.

It's using the U.S. Robotics 56K Voice Win 1806 modem that came with the
system (and which worked previously, although I haven't used in for some
months).

In addition, I can hear the dial tone on the phone connected to the modem
pass-through jack.

Tried with both the windows fax program and hyperterminal.

Any ideas most appreciated. I'm DESPERATE!

Roy,

You might try the easiest things first; be sure you have the software
drivers for the modem and then uninstall and reinstall it.

Since it hasn't been used in a while, the modem simply might've gone bad ...

Also..check to see if this is just a "fax" problem
or an overall connection problem. Just see if the
modem will connect to the internet or not. Best wishes.
