Question No display after installing a new HDD ?

Hello everyone!

I'm at my wits end and cant figure out what's wrong with my rig, I installed a new HDD today with a sata power extension cable, and literally right after I installed it and tried to boot it wouldn't display. Alongside this, as I tried to reseat things in my rig, at some point my cpu fan acted strange, spinning up, then stopping, then continuing to spin. It's worth mentioning that I did switch my cpu fan header to a case fan slot on my motherboard, and that made my cpu cooler act normal. Trying to plug in my mouse and keyboard did nothing as well, no lights or any input.

things I've tried include:
  • removing all sata drives
  • reseating gpu and all ram
  • removing the bios cmos battery and hitting power button.
  • rewiring all my psu cables, excluding sata, as they are removable on my psu
  • tried holding bios keys, but it seems my keyboard doesn't get power.

At this point I'm thinking of swapping my cpu and gpu to another motherboard spare I have, and seeing if that boots, that way I could know if it was the motherboard.

My in-the-works theory is that the sata extension cable shorted my pc somehow, and damaged something. Before I tried using it, my rig was working fine.

Thanks for the reply!
Gonna try and do my best to remember my specs off the top of my head.

Asrock Motherboard, iirc B350?
Cpu is a Ryzen 7 5800x
Gpu is a Nvidia Rtx 3060.
PSU is a corsair TX550M
I had to use a sata exention because my Sata power cable wasn't long enough to reach my hdd.

Having my cpu plugged into my cpu fan header didn't let it boot, but I will keep that in mind going forward.

Sata extension was brand new, I'm not sure if I have another psu that's the same power, my partner has a rig that I was gonna try swapping my cpu and gpu into, might do the psu though.

Wanted to post an update, swapped my ryzen 7 to a different rig, this booted and displayed right away. Going to move over my gpu to confirm that the gpu still works.
