No display and black screen

Hey, i recently got a rx 460 and only have a vga monitor. As of now, i cannot get the monitor to get signal. Will buying a hdmi monitor and connecting my gpu to the monitor solve the problem? Also, i found a cheap alternative to buying a hdmi to vga converter active. Will this alternative serve the same purpose?

yes on the hdmi monitor & yes on the hdmi to vga adapter as long it is powered.

try adapter which came with your gpu if it didnt work then different adapter my help ,but make sure have backup plan to returned if it aint works.

I cant have my monitor connected to my mobo right if im going to use a gpu?

depends on the motherboard's bios as some motherboards can run both onboard video & videocard at same time & other motherboards will only allow videocard to run not the onboard video.
