No display during bios update

Before I go any further apologies if this is a stupid post as this is my first pc build so I’m new with a lot of this stuff.

So as it says in the title I currently have no display on my monitor after attempting to flash my bios to the latest version.

I needed to update my bios as I have a b350 board and a Ryzen 5 2600 so I needed the newest bios for the cpu so I went out and bought a a6 9500 cpu to do the update with.

After installing the a6 9500 everything was fine and the pc posted so I connected my usb drive with the latest bios on it and used m-flash to update the bios, a screen came up telling me not to turn the system off and the progress bar started to climb. When the progress bar reached around 70-80% my display went black and has been black ever since.

I know you aren’t supposed to cut the power to the system before the update finishes to prevent the motherboard from bricking but no power was cut to the system and nothing changed other than the screen going black, the fans are still spinning the leds are still on and there are no leds on the boards ez debug led section.

It’s been around 15 minutes since I started the bios update, is it ok for me to restart the system now or will there still be a possibility of bricking the motherboard?

Any advice at all is appreciated.

Something may have been wrong with the USB drive you had the installer image on, OR you may have had a bad download.

I'd wait another 15 minutes or so and if there is not change, then try the following. Unfortunately, this is not very common anymore like it used to be in the old days, but the potential for a bricked motherboard remains the same as it ever was if the process does NOT complete normally.

Power off the unit, switch the PSU off and unplug the PSU cord from either the wall or the power supply.

Remove the motherboard CMOS battery for five minutes. During that five minutes, press the power button for 30 seconds. After the five minutes is up, reinstall the CMOS battery making sure to insert it with the correct side up just as it came out.

Now, plug the power supply cable back in, switch the PSU back on and power up the system. It should display the POST screen and the options to enter CMOS/BIOS setup. Enter the bios setup program and reconfigure the boot settings for either the Windows boot manager or for legacy systems, the drive your OS is installed on if necessary.

Save settings and exit. If the system will POST and boot then you can move forward from there including going back into the bios and configuring any other custom settings you may need to configure such as Memory XMP profile settings, custom fan profile settings or other specific settings you may have previously had configured that were wiped out by resetting the CMOS.

If the system will not POST after resetting the CMOS, then there is a good chance the board will need to be sent back to the manufacturer for repair. If it has an AMI or Award bios you can TRY the method indicated by Smorizio at the following link to recover, but there are no guarantees, ever, when it comes to recovering from a bad flash.
