No display in my monitor

I just finish building my first computer and when I turn it on everything goes find. The problem is that the monitor doesn't show nothing and says: "No signal detected"

My questions are: What's wrong? What can I do?
How can I know is something is not working?

Is the monitor connected to video card or motherboard?? Try connecting to motherboard and see.
