Hello!

I recently made a build with these specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4790 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i GTX 70.7 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler
Motherboard: Asus Z97-A ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
Storage: Samsung 850 Pro Series 256GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
Storage: Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB Superclocked ACX 2.0 Video Card
Power Supply: Corsair RM 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply

When I put the GTX 970 on the PCIe slot of the motherboard, the PC turns on, but no display regardless of where I put the VGA cable on either motherboard or GPU. I did notice that the red light on “BOOT_DEVICE_LED” of the motherboard stayed on whenever I have the 970 plugged in.

If I removed the GPU, the PC works fine and I was able to do go directly to the Windows’ desktop fine. There’s no red light on the “BOOT_DEVICE_LED”

Here’s a list of the stuffs I tried to do:
• Re-seated GPU and made sure 6+2 and 6 pin connectors are secured on the 970.
• Removed CMOS battery and waited 15 minutes before putting it in again.
• Made sure all cables on the PSU are connected correctly and securely.
• Tried to updated ASUS motherboard BIOS, but it won’t let me do it (if someone can also help me update it, it would be really helpful)
• Returned the first 970 I bought and got a replacement, but it still did what it was doing on the first GPU.

I’m running out of options and I don’t really know what to do next. I never come across this problem with my first build before. If anyone could please help. Thank you.

When your PC boots up , either one of your HDMI ports(Intel/GPU's) will have an output , you need to check which one , in the probable case the default output is set to your CPU's graphics , you need to boot into windows , check the drivers , and then setup the display from nVidia's control panel.

Glad to hear it.

For your new problem, please elaborate. So this card has two DVI ports, one HDMI and one display port, correct? When you say that you plugged a VGA to DVI-D, do you mean that you have a blue colored VGA cable plugged into the monitor and the other end of the cable is plugged into a VGA-to-DVI-D adapter, which then plugs into the video card? And if so, now you're using the same VGA cable and connecting it to a VGA-to-HDMI adapter and that adapter is plugged into the HDMI port on the video card? Also, what manufacturer and model is your monitor? On the monitor's on screen display, is the proper input selected?

One other thing, analog VGA cables are detected and display an image almost immediately. But many digital inputs won't display unless either the computer is rebooted or the computer is off, cable is then plugged in and the computer is subsequently turned on.

Sorry for the late reply, it was only a bad HDMI cable. Everything is working now. Thank you so much!!!
