Hi,
I am trying to build a NAS and am using mostly second hand parts. After much tinkering I have now got it to power up (think it was an issue with the CPU, heatsink and thermal paste).
I know the PSU and RAM are working as I have tried them in another PC with success.
At the moment the case and fans are connected to the motherboard, The CPU and heatsink are connected to the motherboard. The DVD ROM is connected to the motherboard. The RAM is inserted in the motherboard. Monitor (DVI cable) is connected to motherboard, as are the speakers. I have not put the GPU or HDD in yet.
I have tried starting the computer with Hirem Boot Disk Ubuntu Live CD but nothing is getting displayed on the monitor. I can hear the DVD spinning and it sounds like it is working as there is a variation in noise.I done this with 1 RAM stick, then tried by moving the stick to the other slot and done the same with the second stick. Should also state that no noise is coming from my speakers (but think this is normal)
My parts are:
Case: Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced
Motherboard: GA-A75N-USB3
CPU: Athlon II X4 631 (may be 641 but don't want to remove heatsink to check again)
RAM: 2x2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 1333MHz
PSU: Seasonic S12II-430W
DVD: not sure
As far as I am aware, all the parts are compatible, so don't think it is a compatibility issue.
Any idea what I am doing wrong or what I can do to get a display?
p.s. I have already followed this guide: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems
