No display on new computer build- Motherboard question.

I have an ASrock z77 extreme4 motherboard on a brand new DIY computer, and it doesn't seem to be reading the display of my brand new monitor. I'm wondering- is it possible that the ram I installed is incompatible? I have 1 stick of Gskill Ripjaws, F3-12800CL10S-8GBXL. It is NOT listed on the compatibility list for my motherboard...which is ironic, considering that Newegg bundled them together as a buy-one-get-one. :kaola:

Do I need different ram, or is something else the problem? The instruction guide says that it needs two sticks for dual channel, but I had assumed it would work without dual channel with one stick. Everything else seems to boot- hard drive runs, lights, fans, cd drive opens and closes; I'm using on board graphics and do not have a graphics card installed. Thank you for any help in advance!

The monitor is an Acer flatscreen LCD monitor, model S230HL, and by video interface I assume you're asking which cable I have connecting the monitor to the computer? I have the VGA cable plugged between them, but it came with a DVI cable, as well. If 'interface' means something different I don't mind learning- this is only my second time building a computer from the ground up. :) I won't pretend to be an expert when I'm not- asking questions is all about learning.

Do you have any other computers around to test the monitor? Laptop, desktop, etc. Just to verify that it works.

Though, if your stick of RAM is faulty, you won't get a display. One stick of RAM is fine. People recommend dual channel because of the performance boost.

Did you set the default display type in bios to "onboard"? The adjustment is in the northbridge config screen under primary graphics adapter. The default setting for this m/b is pcie and I suspect your m/b is looking for a non-existent video card.

Edit: The northbridge is in the advanced screen selection along the top row.

I -have- actually tested it with my laptop- the display and both cables work just fine. As for setting the default display type in BIOS, I can't exactly do that AFAIK without having a display to read the bios screen with. It doesn't seem to want to read the monitor at all- it just says 'no signal'. All of the parts are new- I unboxed and began to build it just last night. It would be infuriating if the RAM shipped faulty.

I was taking it to my house tomorrow to exchange the RAM in this setup with the RAM in MY desktop, to see if it was the RAM. My desktop is the first one I build by myself, and I absolutely know everything on it works flawlessly, so we'll see. I can post back tomorrow as soon as we have the RAM from my computer in this computer; results pending.

Note: this is perhaps the most helpful forum I think I've ever asked for advice on. You guys rock!

It's fine! There aren't a lot of women in technology and such- it's understandable. And no, I have not- good idea! I can at least do that much without Ozymandias (my desktop) being here to swap RAM with. I did not get any Dr. Debug results, either- I read up on that in the instruction guide and it did not light up//tell me anything.

Alright- there's no change with the RAM in all four different slots, and...no to the 8 pin aux cable. Was I supposed to? ((you mean this, right?))

I feel so stupid right now. Thank you. :pfff: It's on. Oh my god. I'm gonna go ram my head into a wall a few times.
