Okay, I need to ask this directly.

Hey guys.

Whole new setup, i5 6600, h110m gigabyte, evga 500w, corsair lpx 8gb . Everything works fine without the 1060, but when I connect it, I don't get any display. Yes, I went in bios and it was already set to pcie display. The only thing that is older is the hard drive, where there are some old drivers from my old 6850.

Did I get a faulty card?

Solution
the need for an active convertor is when going to an analog connection like regular vga or dvi-a from the digital one on your new gpu.

that's where something has to be done to swap the signal. but digital to digital does not need an active one. so dvd-i dual link to hdmi would not need an active on and so on.

so the cable you picked would be fine for your use as you are not changing anything from the gpu to the tv
It would be easy to diagnose a DOA card if you had a backup of any kind to verify with.

Since you aren't even seeing the post it is either a problem with the card itself or the installation of the card.

Even without drivers and often without the 6pin connectors you will still see the POST while the PC boots up.

Does your motherboard have a second PCI-E slot that you could try installing the card into?

Hey man, just tested on another pc. Turns out it`s the gpu. Gonna have to exchange it 🙁

Hey man! Thanks for the tip! I though they worked, I was using an adapter. BUT it didn`t work either when I connected the hdmi on tv, so... right? My monitor is an aoc 912vwa

Anyway, this https://www.amazon.com/Postta-DVI-D-Ferrites-Plated-Male-15/dp/B01LZRITJV/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481931701&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=dvi+cable&psc=1 work, right?

Oh, and another question, which is better? this dvi-d cable or an hdmi adapter to vga. This also works right? https://www.amazon.com/Rankie-Gold-Plated-Active-Adapter-Converter/dp/B00ZMV7RL2/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481932248&sr=1-3&keywords=hdmi+to+vga

that adapter would work since it is an "active" one. an active adapter is required now cine the pascal cards do not output an analog signal anymore.

as for dvd-i vs hdmi to vga, they are both really the same. you'll still have the same limits due to the vga input either way. but the hdmi is the newer tech so to me would be the better one to use the adapter on. since most of the cards only have a single hdmi, if you need it for something like using a tv as a second monitor, then of course the dvd-i would be the better one to use for your monitor. so you can keep the hdmi free for the tv. if only the monitor being used, then i'd go with the hdmi one.

The tv was just for testing. Its not in a good position for me, so it will have to be the dvi-d to dvi-d cable. And guess what. The tv where I tested, after you posted here, I remembered that when I connected my notebook via hdmi it didn`t work either, so I tested on my mom`s tv and... it worked, so I though: the vga cable didn't work because I only had and adapter and this tv never worked for this so.. yep, nothing wrong with video card. Thanks man!

Also, people are comenting a lot in forums to buy an active converter, but I guess thats only for those whom dont have dvi-d and hdmi connections, however, that sounds like something normal in monitors. I have dvi-d 24+1 connection on mine. So this one that I pasted here before would do it for sure, right? https://www.amazon.com/Postta-DVI-D-Ferrites-Plated-Male-15/dp/B01LZRITJV/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1481931701&sr=1-2-spons&keywords=dvi+cable&psc=1 (want to be 120% sure hahah)

Any chance you are in Nevada? I have a huge stockpile of active adapters and could throw you one for free.

Thanks again! I maybe even buy an active adapter when I also buy a controller. Because my tv is in position for console gaming, but for now, it wont help.

Well, kinda close. Brazil hahaha
