Question No display on new PC build

Hey, I have built my first PC and I am having some issues.

I am using the ASUS ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming LGA1151 and have no display on my screen when connecting a HDMI cable straight to my mobo.

This PC boots up (When the power is first turned on, the PC seems to come on for a moment, indicated by the fans spinning, then switch off. I then have to manually press the power button) and I have no display on the monitor when connected to my MOBOs hdmi port.

If someone could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated.

No, you connect the cable to your GPU's outputs and everything ought to be viewable using the basic VGA adapters until you can install the drivers. Monitors have to be connected to GPUs in order to use the GPU.

The motherboard I an using does not have a vga port though, only a hdmi and dp port.

I'm talking about the VGA drivers; you don't need to use an actual VGA port to use the basic drivers. VGA just stands for video graphics array. But you have to connect to the GPU and not the motherboard to use the GPU. If you connect to the GPU and still don't see anything, then something else is/has gone wrong.

I think I may be missing something here, but what I have tried is to connect through my motherboards hdmi and my gpus hdmi and neither of them have yielded an image.

you using a TV or a monitor, check that your tv/monitor is on the right HDMI input, you usually get hdmi1, hdmi2, hdmi3 etc, on a tv you usually get it from pressing the source button, its a rectangle with an arrow pointing in

Just picked up my display port adaptor and it seems to have done the trick. Thanks anyway.

I have a problem with this ASUS Strix 2060, it only recognises the HDMI from the lone port, over the other 4 ports.

Someone at a large lan I was recently at had the same problem, no display on his monitor until plugged into the bottom port of his 2080.
