I bought an RTX 3060 to replace old GTX 770 but I can't get display from GPU. Display comes from integrated graphics in every boot.

GTX 770 works, then I power off the PC, installed new RTX 3060 but no display. RGB leds and fans work all the time. I intentionally disconnected power to GPU while PCI connected to see what happens. Red indicator light came on near power socket.

My old system has Pentium g3258 on Z97 PC Mate. PEG is choosen in BIOS.

I am not sure if it is not compatible, or GPU is broken. Is there a way to troubleshoot?

Yes. Otherwise red light reminds me PSU is not connected. 770 needs 8+6 pin power and it works, but 3060 needs 8 pin and does not work.

770 Works
3060 Does not work

3060 RGB and fans work

Pentium G3258
Z97 PC Mate
8 GB RAM (Corsair)
700W PSU (Came with Zalman case)

How old is the PSU? Can you test with another one?
And just for my curiousity , since the CPU is the obvious bottleneck in your build, at what resolution do want to use the GPU?

It is 7 years old. But I don't understand why it might be related to PSU? When I installed GTX 770 which has 8+6 pin power it works. This new card draws less power than 770.

I will replace my system in a month or two, but until then i want to use with this GPU. I have 2k monitor so that will be the resolution.

One last question. What happens if PCI connection is loose? When it is not connected to PSU red light shows off so I assume PCI connection is okay but lock on the end of PCI slot didn't click. I pressed down card as hard as possible but that thing cannot be locked. It is locked when 770.
