no display when connecting to graphics card

i have a vga monitor . so i bought an adapter to connect it to my hdmi graphics card. when i connect my monitor and gpu with an adapter, there is no display. what should i do ?

Some cards require an active adapter. If your doing hdmi to vga etc

Yes, newer cards provide no analog output and will require an active hdmi to vga adapter.
