I was helping my brother build his pc. Everything works fine except that the graphics card won't display. When I plug into the onboard graphics I get a display. I can login and get into windows. From there I can plug in a monitor to my dedicated gpu and I would get a display. So some how its using both my on board and my dedicated gpu. If I unplug my cable to the motherboard I still get a display. When I restart my pc I get no display at all.

Solution
In the bios, there should be a setting as to what graphics adapter is primary.
I think your bios is defaulting to the integrated adapter.

Normally, a motherboard that detects a discrete graphics card will change the default to the discrete card.
