No display with two video cards installed

So I just bought two GTX 970's and installed them in my pc today. The problem is that I have no display with both cards installed. With one card installed the pc boots up and the display comes up. I have confirmed that both cards installed by themselves in the pc work. The problem is when both are installed and I boot the PC I get nothing. The screen just stays black. I can't even leave the second card in the second PCIe slot unplugged. I have to physically remove the second card from the second PCI slot or I have no display......wtf?

Two cards in this PC worked fine before as I had two 670's in SLI right before I tried to install these. Any ideas. I've got it hooked up through HDMI but also tried the DVI port with same results.

Any help would be appreciated.

Well bios update didn't help. And more bad news I lost my raid in bios update.....

Oh well, mostly just a bunch of movies that I won't miss too much or can get back on there...

If I get a new mother board going to have to redo everything anyway. Another fun project and more $$$...... YEEEAAh
With Asus cards they have a nice feature I like that shows an LED red or green when they getting power....nice feature, other shud take note.

Call MoBo manufacturer and have them walk you thru troubleshooting ... will be easier if they both same manufacturer cause they will try and do the blame game. make sure to emphacize that both work in Slot 1.

Power to both gpu's...yes. It's an EVGA nova 2 850 watt psu so I its got plenty of power. New wrinkle, I can throw one of the old 670's back in the second slot and display comes up fine. It just doesn't like both of those 970's in there at the same time. The 970's are zotac. The motherboard is asrock.

maybe try a clean installation of drivers as well...I had same issue with 2 780ti,s 2 days ago...I have to revert to an old system image to get everything up AND RUNNING., also GeForce experience wasn't opening as well. its fixed now tho.

Both cards work individually in either slot. I have no display with both installed though. Threw the 670's back in and display comes up.

I'd try that but I get nothing on display from the second I turn on the computer if both are installed. No bios screen.....nada. The 670s still work in when I put them back in. This mobo definitely doesn't like something about having both those cards in at the same time.

Luckily, I have another pc and I'm going to try the 970's together in that one. Current motherboard I'm having troubles with is Asrock z87 killer. Other ones also asrock....can't remember model off the top of my head.

It doesn't come back with anything. These are two zotac GTX 970 amp omega cards and the motherboard is an Asrock fatality z87 killer. I put the cards in my other pc which has an Asrock z77 extreme 9 and they install and work great.

Although it doesn't specifically state anything related to this I will update bios to latest. I'd also like to add I did try two different brand GTX 970s on this motherboard last week and they installed fine. They were evga. But they had coil whine and fans were loud so I sent them back and purchased these zotacs. I really like these. Much beefier cooling wise and a lot quieter. But both just won't work with this dang motherboard together.

I am not seeing anything on ASROCK's site or others referring to problems with the dual GTX 970 SLI. Changing mobos may solve the problem - before you do - I would try to contact ASROCK tech support to see if they can come up with a solution....may save you a few bucks....
