No DMI, but hdmi works fine.

I just installed my new Shaphire Radeon HD 7950 and i was ready to go to bed after my rig clean and upgrade but!

I used to have a Radeon 6790, i am using my pc for gaming and movies and so on.

with my old card i used hdmi for my tv and VGA for my 24" gaming screen ( i know horrible vga)

but when i upgraded to my new card i also bougth a DVI-D cable to use with it.

I have absolutely no problems with my hdmi connected screen, i even get sound no probs, but my screan don't get any signals from my pc trough the DVI.

I haven't done anything hardware since 2007 so my techness is pretty outdated.

is there anything i can do other than buying a mini-dp to hdmi, and another hdmi cable(i stoly y xbox's cable)

My specs is:

win 7 ultimate
Shaphire Radeon HD 7950
Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3, Socket-AM3+
AMD Athlon II X4 640 (3.0 Ghz)

I know my motherboard is only pci-e 2.0 and my gpu is pci-e 3.0 But they should be backwards compileble.

Please help.

Your 24" gaming screen is the one with no display right?

Why not use the dvi to vga adapter that came with your card and hook it up that way?

The problem with dvi is it can be pure analog like vga (Called dvi-a), pure digital like hdmi (called dvi-d), or combine both in one cable (Called dvi-i)

Now because you bought a dvi-d cable and its not working, AND that your monitor has a vga port - I'm guessing your monitor is analog only and needs a dvi-a or dvi-i cable

My tv works fine connected with hdmi, my 24" sceen works fine with the hdmi.
The cable is DVI-D and so is my 24" screen.

I gues using the adapter to vga could work, but now i'm so setup on getting a better picture that the tought is giving me goosebumps.

My screen is a BenQ G2420HD (full hd)

Hmmm. that makes this problem more perplexing. It should work unless the cable is bad or wrong.
Compare your cables connector and make sure its a dvi-d,

Other than that I would contact BenQ support as it might be a stuck in slepp mode dvi problem. I see several hits on that in google.

edit - by the way, your monitor is 1920x1080 which VGA can do. I doubt you'll see a difference in picture quality on a BenQ.

Well the dvi cable i am trying to use was bougth with the gpu card from the same store.

I've tripplechecked My screen card have a DVI-i Exit, (witch can take everything as far as i know, the monitor can has a DVI-D inntake and the cable is a unused DVI-D.

Is a BenQ rly that bad?
