That sounds like you are doing the windows setup from a USB right?

Go into your bios settings (power on pc, press the esc, del, or key li#ted on screen)

Go into the sata configuration and set it from IDE to AHCI mode. Go to the boot tab and make the hard drive the second bootable device. Save settings and retry the windows installation

If that doesn't work, locate USB legacy in your bios and set it to enabled

Hi, sdoran.

Since it is an installation disk, open the bios settings, go to the boot tab, and boot priority
Set to boot from CD first in that list
Hard drive comes second

Save settings, try again. If the hard drive isn't listed in the bios, check if it is connected to your PC securely first.

Hello Reyaz123,
The problem is the hard drive is not recognised in bios.I need to some how install mass storage onto the hdd.Hp will not let you download drivers if they don't find an Hp hard drive connected.I have tried copying drivers to disk and installing when windows notify drivers missing.Allother drivers are accepted except mass storage which is rejected as out dated. I have downloaded new drivers from Advents online support with the same result from windows.
Regards,
sdoran.

Does the drive work in another computer? If it doesn't I would suspect the drive being faulty. Since you purchased it as a a used hard drive.

You could also try opening up your PC, removing the CMOS battery for 1 minute, put it back in, and try booting once more

Which model hard drive is it?

The drive is Hp Model:MM1000EBKAF,I did a scan on it and that came back ok,no bad sectors.I've used it as storage and it worked fine.I've partitioned and formated it,and it shows up in disk management as healthy active primary partition. that is connected externally.when I connect internally it does not show, the hard drive I remove to install the Hp works okay with windows installed.Hmmmm.

Most definitely it is a driver issue with the new hard drive. All connections are working. You've mentioned downloading the drivers to a USB correct? During the windows install (custom) it allows you the option to "load drivers" and you need to locate them

At this point, within my scope of knowledge not sure what that can be. I've looked up that model hard drive and it seems like it requires a bit more advanced setup than a hard drive like this

If nothing helps, I would return it for refund and purchase the hard drive listed above (its for laptops)

Apologies if that didn't help much, but if you repost this in the forums with all the solutions you've tried, another user may be able to help you out (given that they owned a hard drive similar to that type)

Best of luck,
-Reyaz

no need for apologies. You tried to help and I'm opliged to you for that.have you seen or heard of a 22pin 7+15 sata power cable male to male fitting. There are plenty male to female. The hdd shows up when connected via USB with the hdd internal still connected, but windows will not allow an installation through a USB connection.

Here's what I,m going to try.The Hp is to high(13mm) to fit in the hard drive so it was always going to be external connection.I will use a male to female from the mb to the hdd that is already installed and that will be external. From that I shall run a male to 2 female splitter .Anyway I'll let yothen both hdd's should be connected internally, anyway I'll let you know the outcome if that is okay.
