Hi guys,

Just upgraded from an ASUS 2gb gtx 770 to an ASUS 8gb r9 390 (i needed more vram for gta5).

Im not getting any signal from either DVI-D port to my monitor after the windows logo screen. i know the screen works with DVI-D because i reinstalled my 770 and used the DVI-D port on that to test my screen, all worked perfectly.

Im using the DP for my smaller monitor and DVI-D is my only option for the second monitor. The DVI-D output also works in windows safe mode and on the bios screens etc. I also did a clean uninstall of the old card before installing the r9 with the use of driver removal software (forgot the name).

Any ideas on how i can get this working?

SPECS:
Intel i7-4770
Asus Z87-C
16GB Corsair Vengence ram (4*4gb)
XFX 750W power supply
Samsung 240gb SSD for OS
Various 1TB drives for storage
Windows 7 Home Premium

For whatever reason HDMI has horrific quality on my monitor when plugged into a graphics card (is fine with consoles) hence the reason for wanting to use dvi

Hmm Does your monitor have a VGA Port?

Yes but the card only has these outputs: 2* DVI-D, HDMI, DP

Only DP can be used with VGA and im using that for my other monitor. I need the dvi to work

Have you tried your HDMI cable with your other monitor?

Doesn't have hdmi input. In future im going to upgrade both monitors and will want to use both on dvi so i will need dvi to work

Nevill, have you tried updating your chipset drivers? That could be why HDMI to your monitor looks bad.

i believe they are updated. i think the hdmi is an issue with the screen, its done it with every graphics card or pc ive tried it with. hdmi works fine on other tvs

VGA and DVI is being phased out. All future video cards will only have DisplayPort and/or HDMI on them.

So do not base your future plans on DVI because it is already a dead end. VGA is already gone from almost all video cards, and most monitors.

I was meant to say near future, itll be years before i even consider a new card now anyway.
Regardless of this i should still be able to use the dvi outputs for my second screen, like i said my 770 worked fine as soon as the drivers on the cd were installed.

I agree with that statement. Unfortunately, I have no more ideas than what people have already suggested. Take the card out and reinstall it. Make sure its firmly seated in the slot. Might not change anything, but its something you can try for free. Most of my other ideas have costs associated with them.

Apologies for accidentally selecting best solution and writing a blank reply, phone had a bit of a break down haha.

Just a thought, i removed the graphics card from the system and then plugged inputs into motherboard. i got a picture from the vga but not the dvi-d port, would this be connected? i didnt have them plugged in at the same time btw, booted with dvi plugged in but nothing at all showing

EDIT:
Another point, i accidentally booted to a an old drive that doesnt have any amd driver on and managed to get full 1080p from the dvi slot, downside is the second screen on dp>vga didnt get a signal.

Anyone have any more suggestions?

I'm not sure if you ever got this resolved, but after spending an entire day dicking around with this myself, I FINALLY fixed it. No guarantee this will work for you, but here's what I did:

1) Uninstalled monitor and video card drivers.
2) Booted in safe mode, and deleted any remaining entries pertaining to those drivers with Driver Fusion.
3) Booted into the BIOS and changed the graphics from the video card to integrated graphics.
4) Saved the changes, opened Windows, then powered down again.
5) Opened my PC case and removed the graphics card from the PCI-E slot.
6) Closed the case and booted back up to confirm everything was working okay with the DVI-D cable attached to the motherboard.
7) Booted into safe mode again and went into Driver Fusion to clean out any remaining potentially remaining driver entries.
8) Cleared CMOS.
9) Booted back up, downloaded clean versions of my monitor and video card drivers.
10) Installed the monitor driver first, then rebooted.
11) Powered down, opened the PC case and reinstalled the video card.
12) Booted into BIOS, set the graphics option back to the video card from the integrated graphics.
13) Powered down, moved the DVI-D cable back from the motherboard slot to the video card slot, and turned the computer back on.
14) Installed the current, beta graphics driver (for me, it was 15.10 for Windows 10, 64-bit). Did a custom install and installed ONLY the graphics driver. Did not install Catalyst, HDMI audio driver, etc.
15) Rebooted the computer and presto, the DVI-D slot continues to work post-boot screen.

For what it's worth, I have the MSI R9 390, Asrock Z77 Exteme4 mobo, and i5 3570K. Everything seems to be working with my Dell U2713HM at 2560x1440 via the DVI-D output. If that changes, I will post again here.

Hopefully this helps someone out there, as I spent all day messing with this, reading through forums, and never found any solutions posted anywhere.
