Question No Fans Working

Hi all,

I recently (alarmingly) realized that most of the fans (CPU fan, case fans, GPU fans appear to be working properly however) are not switching on, leading to swelteringly high CPU temps. I'm unsure how long it's been going on for (I usually have headphones on and don't notice the noise much, it's quite quiet anyway) but I noticed it a few days after re-installing Windows on my PC (not sure if that could be related though). I have tried updating my BIOS to the latest version but it didn't help. I have checked that my CPU fan is connected to the correct motherboard input. In my BIOS Setup it seems to be able to detect the fans but when I try to manually start them from the BIOS Setup they don't do anything. SpeedFan seems unable to even detect any fans.

Setup: Z370 AORUS Ultra Gaming
i7-8700k
16GB RAM
GTX 970
650W PSU
Fractal Design R4 Case
CPU cooler is Arctic Freezer 7 Pro Rev.2

Any ideas?

Update: managed to get the case fans working by plugging them direclty into the MOBO and not using the case fan controller. CPU cooler fan was still not working. I attached a case fan to the CPU fan input and the case fan ran, so presumable my CPU fan has cooled its last, so I suppose I'm now looking for CPU cooler recommendations 😛

Also not helping is that CPU cooler , CAN'T cool the 8700k...Very poor performing cooler.

Which cooler do you recommend?

If it is 8700K, You might need high-end cooling. Intel i7 K is high end CPU made for overclocking, so sooner or later that will come to Your mind.

I'd go big and buy Dark Rock Pro 4. It's great - looks nice, it's quiet and effective BUT requires low profile ram memory (about 4,5 cm height is max). Alternatives are Noctua DH-15 or Scythe ninja 5. (make sure it will fit Your RAM memory on the mobo - this might be problematic)

However, if You don't plan to overclock Your CPU or OC only a little bit, You can go for something "cheaper" like scythe mugen 5 or similar. You can also just buy new CPU Fan and install it on Your current radiator (not recommended, don't think of OC then)
