No film option on Canon 5000F?

I'm trying to scan some 35mm negs on my Canon 5000F, but in ScanGear CS (the
driver that works from within other applications) the only option the
"Select Source" window is giving me is "Platen" - no "Film" option is listed
(as there should be according to the manual).

I've tried various things - scanning from Photoshop and ArcSoft PhotoStudio,
re-installing scanning software - no change.

Any idea on what's wrong?

Do you have a light lid or transparency adapter on the scanner?
Is the transparency adapter plugged in?

There is a kind of masking sheet that needs removing, which I did. (I have
the manual and followed the instructions.🙂)
I should say I've managed to scan negs before, and I don't remember any
problems (it was some while back).

There is a short cable between the lid and the lower unit.
Make sure that cable is still connected.

Damn! as simple as that...
