No graphics display apart from integrated

I had it plugged into the mobo and not gpu for hdmi so i switched it to gpu but there is no visual output at all i tried changing it in the bios to pci and then peg but still no visual and weirdly when i returned to the bios those settings weren't saved at all so im not sure if it had any effect, is it possible the gpu may be broken and i have to return it?

P.S The graphics card i have is the 2GB XFX Radeon HD 7870 Double Dissipation Edition
and the motherboard is the Gigabyte GA-B75M-D3H

Some gpu have two power plugs make sure both are connected. The other power plug is te four or eight pin mb power. Ps also check your mb bios rev. There been a lot of bug patches for the 77 chipset.
